Ghatshila is a small town in the district of East Singhbhum of Jharkhand state. It is about 40 Kms towards east of Jamshedpur and about 210 Kms to the west of Kolkata.
The Erstwhile Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashrama which was started in 1935 at Dahigora in Ghatshila was affiliated to the Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math in May 2004 and was renamed Ramakrishna Math, Ghatshila.
Swami Vijnananandaji Maharaj
Swami Vijnanananda, a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Deva and a brother monk of Swami Vivekananda was born in the year 1868. He became the Fourth President of the Ramakrishna Order in the year 1937. He was the architect of the Sri Ramakrishna Temple at Belur Math with the ideas of Swami Vivekananda. This temple stands today as a symbol of Harmony of Religions. The Ashrama at Ghatshila was blessed by the visit of Swami Vijnanananda Maharaj in the year 1936.
The Ashrama stands on a one-acre land. It has a small Temple with a marble image of Sri Ramakrishna installed in the shrine, a few rooms for the monks to stay, a Charitable Dispensary, a Computer Centre, a Guesthouse for the Devotees, and the Ashrama office.
